PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Khalil Omurzakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Khalil Omurzakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Guillermo Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omurzakov with a jab.

Mendez ducks straight into an uppercut from Omurzakov and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Mendez manages to regain guard straight away.


Mendez is rocked!

Mendez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Omurzakov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Omurzakov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendez is still in real trouble! Can Omurzakov finish him?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Omurzakov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Omurzakov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mendez trying to keep a closed guard but Omurzakov is proving a slippery customer.

Mendez seems to have recovered his senses.
Omurzakov wants to get up but he can't break Mendez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Omurzakov is looking to work some ground and pound but Mendez has wrist control.
Omurzakov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mendez manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Omurzakov wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mendez has him pressed against the cage.

Mendez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Omurzakov is pushing Mendez's head away, looking to escape. Mendez manages to hold on to the position though.

Mendez is working to tighten his grip on Omurzakov's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Omurzakov has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mendez is really squeezing tight and eventually Omurzakov passes out! Mendez breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Guillermo Mendez!
