5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aleksey Markov! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wijaya fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Markov falls off balance throwing a combination
and Wijaya decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Markov's guard. Markov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Wijaya has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Markov takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wijaya lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Markov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Markov is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Wijaya swings around for an armbar but Markov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Wijaya's guard. Wijaya is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Wijaya working over Markov with some ground and pound. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wijaya connects with a nice short shot to Markov's temple. Markov wants to get back to his feet. Markov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wijaya. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wijaya winds up and cracks Markov with a swinging punch to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Raja Wijaya dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
