Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leigh Reeves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pillow Hands! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hands gets a double leg takedown into Reeves's guard. Reeves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hands is one step ahead there. Reeves knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hands on the ground. Hands trying to control the position from guard on top but Reeves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Reeves can't keep his opponent in guard - Hands advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Hands is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hands is looking for a kimura but Reeves is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hands to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reeves is looking to control Hands's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Reeves avoid being mounted? Reeves is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hands's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hands's back! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. I really don't envy Hands right now.
Hands looking very determined here, making life difficult for Reeves.
Hands tries to break free.
Hands is still trying to improve position. Hands looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Reeves controlling well, preventing Hands from escaping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hands staying busy and making it hard for Reeves to control. Hands trying to control the position but Reeves manages to sink in the hooks. Hands breaks Reeves's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hands has gone for a leg lock! Reeves slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hands's guard.
Hands pushes a forearm under Reeves's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Reeves is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Pillow Hands! Pillow Hands decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
