Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Heath Carlson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has chosen Oh...Canada as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Heath Carlson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Johnson! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson shoots in and bounces Carlson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Carlson wriggles free and stands up. Johnson shoots and misses and Carlson counters with a right hand to the body. A head kick misses from Johnson. Roy Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson fails with the takedown and Carlson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carlson. Johnson is looking to control Carlson's arms but Carlson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Johnson has his back to the cage. Johnson letting Carlson take a breather here. Johnson effectively controlling the action here. Johnson avoiding damage as Carlson throws knees to the body.
Carlson successfully pulls guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Carlson wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Carlson stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet. Carlson tries to counter with a takedown but Johnson is quick to defend against it. Heath Carlson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Johnson. Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carlson circles away quickly and effectively. Carlson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
Carlson gets control of Johnson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carlson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Johnson throws an elbow that misses. Carlson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Johnson's guard. Nice move by Carlson!
Johnson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Carlson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carlson stands up and waves to Johnson to follow him. Carlson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Johnson throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Carlson pushes Johnson up against the cage in a clinch. Carlson manages to pull guard.
Carlson wants to get back to his feet but Johnson passes into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Carlson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Carlson wants to get back to full guard. Johnson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carlson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Carlson is trying to stand.
Carlson is breathing heavily. Johnson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Carlson is staying active underneath Johnson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Heath Carlson dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carlson was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard. Johnson with a nice head shot there. Carlson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Johnson has passed into side control.
Johnson trying to control the action but Carlson is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carlson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Johnson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Johnson scoring with punches and elbows. Carlson is looking for a sweep. Johnson is putting a hurting on Carlson here, landing some big shots from side control. Johnson landing a few strikes. Carlson is trying to buck Johnson off. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson moves into full mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson lands a heavy elbow. Roy Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far. Carlson swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Johnson with good strikes from the mount here! Johnson dominating with strikes here.
Carlson is rocked! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Johnson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh Carlson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Johnson working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Carlson looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Johnson! Submission of the night perhaps?
