Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dave Johnson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Steve Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cox pinned against the cage. Cox gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Cox, which made it look bad.

Johnson gets a takedown into half guard.
Johnson not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson misses with a head shot. Cox uses the momentum to regain guard.
Cox looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson stands up over Cox, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Cox escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cox is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

A close round but Dave Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Johnson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cox defends well and Johnson ends up having to push Cox into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cox has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Cox's legs - danger averted.

Cox looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Johnson has picked Cox up and slammed him! Cox can't keep hold of the triangle and Johnson manages to pass to side control!

As Johnson tries to get set, Cox tries to push him back and clinch up but Johnson manages to avoid the attempt.
Johnson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cox defends it nicely.

Cox throws a head kick that Johnson semi-blocks.

Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cox was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cox is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dave Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dave Johnson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
