Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Evair Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason McRoberts! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos swinging wildly here.
McRoberts shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Santos defends it nicely. Santos takes a swing at McRoberts's ribcage but misses. Santos defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McRoberts. McRoberts lands with an uppercut that bounces Santos off the cage and back into range. Santos throws a body punch but McRoberts moves out of range. McRoberts drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Santos defends it well. A combination from Santos does no damage. McRoberts shoots in but no luck this time. Evair Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason McRoberts. McRoberts closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Santos did well to prevent McRoberts getting side control. McRoberts wants to take a breather but Santos is having none of it. McRoberts wants to free his trapped foot but Santos is holding on for dear life with his legs. Santos is staying active underneath McRoberts, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. McRoberts seems to be working for a kimura but Santos defends the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. McRoberts fails to land the takedown. Santos throws a hook to the side of McRoberts's head but McRoberts sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. McRoberts takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Santos missing with a left hand there. McRoberts was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Santos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McRoberts walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. McRoberts ducks under a wild hook from Santos. McRoberts throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Santos's waist but Santos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McRoberts off to one side. Evair Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santos misses with a looping left. McRoberts staying out of range there. McRoberts closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McRoberts lands in his opponent's guard. Santos seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Santos trying to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McRoberts throws a strike but Santos rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
McRoberts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McRoberts working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Santos looking to pass the guard. Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but McRoberts is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McRoberts swivels though and keeps the full guard. Santos postures up.
McRoberts wants to control the position but Santos says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Santos with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Santos is working for a kimura but McRoberts is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santos looks to score with a jab to the body but McRoberts is just out of range. McRoberts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Santos as he avoids it easily. Santos throws a body punch but McRoberts moves out of range. Santos connects with a body shot. McRoberts fails with the takedown. Santos misses the jab. McRoberts slips a jab from Santos. Santos throws a looping overhand right but McRoberts ducks down to avoid it. McRoberts will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Evair Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason McRoberts. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McRoberts goes for a double leg but Santos avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Santos continues to drive forward. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Santos here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Santos throws a body shot but no joy. McRoberts shoots in and bounces Santos off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. McRoberts trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. McRoberts works over Santos with some ground and pound from guard. Jason McRoberts has got the better of the ground game so far. McRoberts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Santos is keeping the position for now. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Santos holds on and takes a little breather. Santos keeping full guard, as McRoberts tries to pass. Santos avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Santos wants to sweep but no luck. McRoberts is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Santos lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McRoberts backs up against the cage.
It looks like Jason McRoberts has been cut. McRoberts closes the distance and clinches up with Santos, looking for a takedown. McRoberts pushes Santos against the cage but Santos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Evair Santos is winning the standup battle so far. McRoberts bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. McRoberts defending well as Santos loads up on a big left hand. McRoberts shoots in for a double leg but Santos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. McRoberts goes for a double leg but Santos avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Santos continues to drive forward. McRoberts fails with the takedown. Santos is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McRoberts can do to turn this around? McRoberts moves out of range as Santos strikes.

Santos defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McRoberts. McRoberts shoots in but Santos avoids the takedown attempt easily. McRoberts slips a jab from Santos. Santos sends McRoberts crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Santos is motioning to the referee to let McRoberts up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
McRoberts is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Santos throws a big shot that misses. McRoberts is still on wobbly legs! Can Santos finish him? Santos lands a brutal uppercut that launches McRoberts off his feet! McRoberts tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Evair Santos! A relieved looking Evair Santos thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
