Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arnold Sodeman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Gornik! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gornik tries for a takedown but Sodeman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Sodeman swings widly with a right hand
and Gornik counters with a nice body shot. Gornik rushes Sodeman and presses him up against the cage. Sodeman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Sodeman paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Gornik defending well as Sodeman loads up on a big left hand. Gornik closes the distance and pushes Sodeman back into the cage. Sodeman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gornik is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Gornik breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gornik moves out of range as Sodeman strikes. Sodeman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gornik.
Gornik doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sodeman counters with a straight right hand. Arnold Sodeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Gornik. Sodeman connects with a crisp jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sodeman misses with a straight left. Arnold Sodeman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gornik tries to clinch and Sodeman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gornik shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Sodeman appears to be looking for a big counter. Gornik moves out of range of the strikes. Gornik tries to counter by closing the distance. Sodeman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gornik. Gornik falls off balance throwing a combination
and Sodeman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Gornik throws a head kick that misses. Gornik takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gornik ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Nice combo by Sodeman! Oh, that's hurt him - Gornik falls to the canvas and Sodeman follows him into side control.
Gornik is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sodeman has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Gornik is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Sodeman yanks on the arm and Gornik is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Sodeman.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Arnold Sodeman! During a confident post fight interview, Arnold Sodeman thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
