Machida has chosen For Whom The Bell Tolls as his entrance music. Lyoto Machida will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida falls off balance throwing a combination
and Maia counters with a takedown into side control.
Maia swings around for an armbar but Machida sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Maia's guard.
Machida won't allow Maia to sweep him here.
Maia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machida gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Machida wants to get up but he can't break Maia's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Maia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Machida can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Machida would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Maia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Machida doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Maia is tightening it up a little... Machida has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Machida reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Machida taps out! Nice BJJ there by Maia!
