Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Merle Hyde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Quaile (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Merle Hyde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Quaile!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hyde gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Quaile to score an easy takedown into full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hyde holds on and takes a little breather.
Quaile with a flurry of punches that miss.
Quaile wants to pass the guard but Hyde is keeping the position.
Quaile slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hyde keeping moving, preventing Quaile from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quaile looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Quaile won't allow Hyde to get back to his feet.
Quaile trying to control the position from guard on top but Hyde is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hyde really is a fat lump.

Hyde tries to sprawl but Quaile drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Quaile throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hyde trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Quaile landing shots from mount.
Quaile has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Quaile throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Hyde is working to get back to half guard.

Quaile working for a guillotine from mount but Hyde is in no mood to give up.
Quaile wants to control the pace but Hyde is squirming around nicely.
Hyde is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Quaile trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Quaile is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hyde to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hyde shrugs it off.
Hyde wants to hold on but Quaile pushes him away.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Quaile controlling the pace for now.
Quaile wants to control the pace but Hyde is squirming around nicely.
Quaile unloads with some shots from mount but Hyde bucks and avoids them well.
Hyde might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Quaile trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Quaile connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quaile lands a big shot there that rocks Hyde but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Quaile avoids the attempt from Hyde to control.
Quaile can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hyde is looking to escape.

Quaile working for a submission but Hyde is keeping him at bay.
Hyde blocking the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hyde sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hyde is doing well to control the position and prevent Quaile from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Quaile dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Quaile shoots in and bounces Hyde off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hyde is looking to stand back up but Quaile counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hyde.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Quaile connects with a nice short shot to Hyde's temple.
Quaile is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hyde keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hyde tries to get to full guard but Quaile has control of the leg.
David Quaile has got the better of the ground game so far.

Quaile working the head and body with strikes.

Quaile decides to return to a standing position.

Quaile shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hyde is trying to stand up here but Quaile is controlling him well.
Quaile controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Quaile has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Quaile wants to get back to his feet.
Hyde wants to get back to full guard.
Quaile wants to take a breather but Hyde is having none of it.
Quaile trying to pass the guard but Hyde defending well.
Hyde has hold of Quaile's hands but Quaile slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Quaile is trying to control. Hyde wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Quaile drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Quaile is looking to take a break and control but Hyde is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quaile has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
You can see the frustration on Hyde's face as Quaile controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quaile working the ground and pound but Hyde is defending the strikes.

Quaile decides to stand back up. Quaile steps back and let's Hyde get back to his feet.

Quaile looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hyde is pulling down on Quaile's head to control his posture.
Hyde looking to control.

Quaile decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hyde pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Quaile tries to bum rush Hyde with a series of wild strikes but Hyde uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Quaile showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Hyde rushes Quaile and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hyde jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Quaile walks away with a smile on his face. Hyde gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Quaile is looking to land body kicks.

Quaile shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hyde napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Hyde sneaks out the side door and pushes Quaile away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Hyde gets caught flat footed, as Quaile shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Quaile being controlled here momentarily.
Hyde is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Quaile dives into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quaile moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Hyde bucks up and tries to throw Quaile off but instead Quaile has got his back!
Hyde finds himself mounted whilst avoiding strikes.
Hyde is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Quaile gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Quaile is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hyde's half guard.
Hyde pushes Quaile off but Quaile dives into side control.
Hyde wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Hyde tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Quaile trying to control the position but Hyde is working away.
Hyde is looking to regain half guard here but Quaile keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hyde is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Quaile controls the position.

Quaile thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Hyde is not content to let Quaile control the position.

Quaile stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hyde moves into the clinch.
Hyde has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Quaile is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Hyde drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Merle Hyde. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Quaile lands a takedown into guard.
Hyde wants to get back to his feet but Quaile passes into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Merle Hyde showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Quaile has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
