PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neil Murray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lou Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marx has chosen Bad Reputation as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neil Murray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Lou Marx!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marx takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Murray scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Murray pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Murray circles away from the clinch attempt.
A clash of legs there as Murray blocks the low kick.
A combination from Murray does no damage.
Marx tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've been informed that Marx has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Murray drops his hands momentarily and Marx takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Marx shoots in but Murray avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A big right from Murray misses.
Murray just misses with a punch to the body.
Murray tests Marx's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Lou Marx has been cut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Murray. Marx does a little dance to reset his feet.
Marx feints the counter takedown.
Neil Murray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marx uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Murray.

Murray waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Marx. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Marx to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Marx is still in real trouble! Can Murray finish him?

Murray advances to half guard.
Murray is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Marx!
Marx seems to have recovered his senses.
Marx is trying desperately to improve position.
Marx is bucking up trying to escape but Murray cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Marx tries to lock up and control but Murray gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Marx really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Murray moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Marx has worked his arm free - good work by Marx!

Murray has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Murray has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Murray tries to control but Marx wriggling away.
Murray controlling the pace for now.
Murray throws some wild stikes that Marx manages to avoid easily.

Marx is working to get back to half guard.

Murray is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Marx can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Marx moves into full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Murray trying to control the position from guard on top but Marx is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Murray's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Marx wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Marx wants to stand but Murray is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Murray throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neil Murray dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lou Marx's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Marx goes for a double leg but Murray avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Murray continues to drive forward.

Marx gets caught napping as Murray dives in and scores a takedown. Marx manages to retain guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Murray throws a big right hand that misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Murray is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Marx controls Murray momentarily but Murray frees himself.
Murray stops Marx from standing up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Murray misses with a low kick as Marx jumps back.
Murray is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marx can do to turn this around?
Marx connects with a single shot there.
Murray takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Murray tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marx was well out of range. Poor timing from Murray.
Murray lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Marx throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Murray misses with an uppercut. Marx saw that one coming.
Murray throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Marx changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Murray throws a right and a left that both miss.

and Murray counters with a nice uppercut.

Marx shoots in and gets a takedown into Murray's guard.
Neil Murray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Murray looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Marx has picked Murray up and slammed him! Murray can't keep hold of the triangle and Marx manages to pass to side control!

Murray is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Marx stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murray swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Marx shoots in for a takedown but Murray shows good takedown defense.
Murray fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Marx tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Murray defends well and Marx ends up having to push Murray into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Neil Murray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lou Marx.
Marx is breathing heavily.

Marx closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Murray did well to prevent Marx getting side control.

Murray throws a body punch but Marx moves out of range.
Murray throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Neil Murray is winning the standup battle so far.
Marx displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Murray throws out the jab.
Murray lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Marx circles away quickly and effectively.
Marx feints the counter takedown.

Marx closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Murray's guard.
Murray has momentary wrist control but Marx slips an elbow through the middle.
Marx working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Murray's head.
Murray utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Marx has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Murray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marx swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marx is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Murray is controlling him well.

Neil Murray is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Murray changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marx looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Marx throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Murray turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Neil Murray.
Well Murray has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
