PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Altare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kabal Labak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that John Altare has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily John Altare seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Altare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Kabal Labak!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Labak slips under a jab from Altare.
Labak drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Altare defends it well.
Altare misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Labak.
Altare misses with a kick to the body.
Labak misses with an uppercut
and Altare counters with a left to the body.
An inside leg kick lands from Altare.
Altare misses with a left hand

and Labak counters with a nice double leg into side control. Altare won't be happy with that.
Altare manages to get back to half guard.
Altare gets back to full guard.
Labak trying to stand up but can't free himself from Altare's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Altare trying to control the position.
Altare has a closed guard, preventing Labak from standing up.
Labak stopping the sweep attempt from Altare.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Altare connects with a nice looking jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like Kabal Labak has been cut.
Altare slips a jab and a cross from Labak.
Labak has his takedown stuffed
and Altare makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Labak takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nice defenses there by Labak.
Labak tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
John Altare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Altare, right into the meat.
Labak misses with a looping right.
Labak's coach down at THC playhouse was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Labak's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Altare lands with a kick to the temple. Labak shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Altare throws a good cross that connects.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Labak crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Altare - the referee stops the clock and Labak gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Altare. Labak manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Altare misses with a hook. Labak ducked under it nicely.
Labak tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Labak cracks Altare with a good jab.


It looks like John Altare has been cut.
Altare throws a leg kick

and Labak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Altare's guard.
Altare is pulling down on Labak's head to control his posture.

Labak wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Altare's closed guard. He's half up but Altare has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Altare pivots and extends the arm, Labak falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Altare! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Altare!
