Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Hank Aaron! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy Barrett! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Aaron checks a leg kick. Barrett throws a lazy head kick and Aaron counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Aaron lands a high kick!
It looks like Jeremy Barrett has been cut. Aaron lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Aaron blocks a head kick by Barrett.
Barrett has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Aaron lands with a nice combination. Barrett backs away looking to recover. Barrett throws a left and a right that both miss
and Aaron counters with a nice right hand that sends Barrett toppling to the canvas! Barrett scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Aaron finish him?!
Barrett is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Barrett throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Aaron blocks a jab. Barrett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Aaron throws a big counter combination but Barrett scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. A good leg kick by Aaron. Aaron misses with a body kick. Barrett checks the leg kick nicely there.
A solid leg kick lands there for Aaron.
Barrett throws a series of punches but Aaron avoids them all with ease.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aaron lands with a straight right. Barrett didn't see that one coming. A big right from Barrett misses. Barrett throws a lazy uppercut
and Aaron counters with a left to the body. Barrett throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Barrett takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Barrett feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Aarons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Aaron lands a big head kick that sends Barrett tumbling to the mat! Aaron takes a step backwards and waves Barrett back to his feet - he wants the finish! Barrett is still on wobbly legs! Can Aaron finish him? The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Barrett tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Barrett seems to have recovered his senses. Donk. Barrett catches Aaron right on the button with a cross. Danga de danga de dang - Barrett scores with a four punch combination! Barrett throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Aaron swings away with a leg kick that misses. We've been told by Aaron's head coaches at The Highland Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. A shot to the liver by Aaron. Beautiful body shot. Barrett throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Barrett has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A shot in the inside from Barrett. Barrett lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Aaron backwards. Barrett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Aaron keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Barrett connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Aaron covering up! Barrett comes in with a big uppercut and Aaron goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jeremy Barrett! Jeremy Barrett retains his super heavyweight title!
