1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dwight Clements! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Maloney! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clements dodges the punch combination from Maloney.
A punch combination from Maloney misses. Maloney pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Clements keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Maloney misses with a series of wild punches.
Clements feinted with a counter takedown. Clements clinches up with Maloney and pushes him back against the cage. Clements tries for a takedown but Maloney manages to get underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Clements has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Maloney avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Clements is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Maloney is defending well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dwight Clements. That's going to take a lot out of him. Clements leaves Maloney with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Maloney closes the distance and clinches up with Clements, looking for a takedown. Maloney pushes Clements against the cage but Clements circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Clements throws a right and a left that both miss. Clements throws a body shot but no joy. Maloney misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clements moves into range and clinches up with Maloney. Clements tries to pull guard but Maloney forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Clements has Maloney pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Maloney manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Maloney is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Clements is defending well. Clements throws a head punch that misses. Clements has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maloney uses from the top position. Maloney is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Clements has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Maloney trying to control the position from guard on top but Clements is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Maloney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clements as he avoids it easily. Dwight Clements is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Maloney tries a head kick but it misses.
Maloney throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Clements. Clements closes the distance and pushes Maloney back into the cage. Clements jumps guard but Maloney turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Clements drops down looking for an ankle pick but Maloney pulls his leg out and moves away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Maloney lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

It looked like Clements was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Maloney tries to close the distance and clinch but Clements swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Clements fails to land with a series of punches.
Thomas Maloney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Maloney throws a series of punches but Clements moves out of range. Maloney gets off balance looking for a body kick and Clements counters with a left and a right that stings Maloney. Clements rushes Maloney and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Maloney looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Clements avoids a punch combination nicely.
Maloney looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Maloney fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Clements throws a right hand that Maloney ducks under and follows up with a left that Maloney also avoids with ease. Maloney looks to land a body kick but Clements moved away. This has been an exciting period of action! Clements closes the distance and pushes Maloney back into the cage.

Clements seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Maloney is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Clements bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maloney's guard. Maloney is looking to stand up but Clements isn't so interested in that idea. Maloney has an active guard here but Clements has managed to pass into half guard.

Clements breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Clements clinches up against the cage. Maloney changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Clements fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Clements's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Maloney lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Clements circles away quickly and effectively.

Clements creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Maloney wants to break free but Clements has control.
Clements has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Clements misses with the head strike.
Maloney is fighting off a takedown attempt but Clements is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Maloney to the mat. Maloney regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Maloney has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Clements off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Clements defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maloney. Clements drives through and clinches with Maloney against the cage.
Clements has clasped his hands together around Maloney's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Maloney is looking to get back to his feet here but Clements is keeping cool and he's managed to take Maloney's back. Thomas Maloney has got the better of the ground game so far. Maloney trying to get back to his feet but Clements is in full control for now. Clements is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Maloney defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Clements has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Maloney has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Dwight Clements is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Maloney rolls, trying to escape but Clements keeps control of the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Dwight Clements showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Clements, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
