PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zod Wettin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lock Bresnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wettin comes to the cage accompanied by If You Dare by Jim Johnston. Bresnar has chosen ABOVE THE LAW - murder rap as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zod Wettin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lock Bresnar!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bresnar throws out a loose jab but Wettin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wettin feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Wettin fails with a takedown attempt.
Wettin slips a jab from Bresnar.
Wettin fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wettin clinches up against the cage.

Bresnar lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Bresnar goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Bresnar tries to land knees in the clinch but Wettin avoids the damage to the body.

Bresnar has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Bresnar throws a shot from downtown. Wettin moves away and avoids it.
Wettin is looking to counter punch.
Lock Bresnar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wettin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Bresnar throws a shot from downtown. Wettin moves away and avoids it.
Wettin fires out a quick counter leg kick but Bresnar just manages to avoid it.
Bresnar ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wettin moves away.
It looked like Wettin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Bresnar has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Wettin.

Wettin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Wettin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wettin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bresnar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wettin is working for a kimura but Bresnar is defending it quite comfortably.
Wettin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Zod Wettin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bresnar swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Bresnar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters circle momentarily. Wettin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Bresnar takes a swing at Wettin's ribcage but misses.

Wettin scores with a takedown into Bresnar's guard.
Wettin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Wettin is pushing down on Bresnar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bresnar is fighting to maintain full guard but Wettin has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wettin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bresnar can do to turn this around?

Horrible takedown attempt by Wettin or perhaps it was just good defense by Bresnar, which made it look bad.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wettin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
It seemed like Bresnar was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Wettin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Wettin fails to land the takedown.
Bresnar might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Bresnar looks to score with a jab to the body but Wettin is just out of range.
Wettin sizes up Bresnar with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Bresnar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bresnar wants it to stay on the feet.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wettin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Zod Wettin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Wettin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bresnar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Lock Bresnar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wettin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
