PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Magnusson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Mondo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mondo has chosen No Fear by j57 as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Magnus Magnusson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Mondo!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magnusson lands a really nice looking cross but Mondo seems unphased.
Magnusson leaves Mondo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Magnusson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Mondo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Magnusson avoids it really well and circles away.
Mondo shoots in for a takedown but Magnusson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
We've been hearing reports that Magnusson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Magnus Magnusson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Mondo.

Mondo closes the distance and pushes Magnusson back into the cage.

Magnusson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Magnusson is controlling the pace.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Magnusson connects with a nice short shot to Mondo's temple.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mondo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mondo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Mondo wants to control but Magnusson is keeping busy.

Magnusson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Magnusson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Magnusson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Magnusson misses with a head shot. Mondo uses the momentum to regain guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mondo shoots in and drives through. Magnusson sprawls well.
Mondo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Magnusson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mondo somewhat.

Magnusson lands with a hook. Mondo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Magnusson stuffs the takedown attempt from Mondo. Mondo gets slowly back to his feet.

Magnusson lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Mondo up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Magnusson from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Mondo's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Magnus Magnusson!

Magnus Magnusson really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Sin City Allstars logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
The defeated Mike Mondo had this to say: 'Falling down only makes us stronger....'.
