11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mirko Barnett! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Todd Anderson! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick misses from Barnett. Anderson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Barnett lands a nice looking kick to the body. Anderson takes a step back to recover. Anderson looks gassed! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Barnett lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Anderson circles away quickly and effectively. Barnett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Anderson paws at him with a jab and circles away. A head kick lands from Barnett that sends Anderson to the canvas. Anderson tries to scramble back to his feet but Barnett brings him back down into side control.
It looks like Todd Anderson has been cut. Barnett in side control, throwing shots but Anderson defends. Barnett is looking to take a break and control but Anderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Barnett wants to stand but Anderson is controlling his arm. Barnett content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Barnett trying to control the position but Anderson is working away.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Barnett tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Barnett throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Barnett throws a low kick but Anderson avoids it. Barnett moves into the clinch. Barnett is trying to break free.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Anderson tries to score a body lock takedown but Barnett shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Anderson can't get the takedown.
Barnett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Barnett throws a head kick but Anderson moves out of range.

Anderson feints and as Barnett raises his hands in defense, Anderson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Barnett avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barnett wants to get up but he can't break Anderson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Barnett lands a couple of decent looking shots. Barnett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Anderson wants to sweep here but Barnett controlling him for the moment. Barnett has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Anderson is proving hard to escape from. Barnett wants to pass the guard but Anderson is keeping the position.

Anderson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Barnett. Anderson keeps the fight on the outside. Anderson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Anderson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Barnett might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Anderson lands a big elbow. Barnett blocking the ground and pound. Barnett wants to control but Anderson is having none of it. Anderson landing strikes from the mount. Anderson throwing strikes here but Barnett is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Anderson breaks from Barnett's wrist control and lands an elbow. Anderson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Barnett here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Anderson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Barnett sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Anderson landing strikes, looking to finish! Anderson has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Barnett's face.
