The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atkinson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Govan swivels and escapes.

Govan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Still in half guard, Govan seems content to control.
Let's hope that Govan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Atkinson gets back to full guard.
Govan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Govan has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Atkinson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Govan is trying to force a seperation but Atkinson has the dominant position.
Atkinson throws a punch but it's blocked by Govan .
Atkinson presses Govan against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Govan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Govan has had enough of the clinch but Atkinson keeps him there for the moment.
Govan is looking to control Atkinson's arms but Atkinson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Govan has his back to the cage.

Govan tries to circle away but Atkinson has him pinned against the cage.

Cam Govan dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Maynard Atkinson's cut.
That's time! Atkinson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Govan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Atkinson as he avoids it easily.
Govan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Atkinson circles away quickly and effectively.
Atkinson is looking to counter punch.
Atkinson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Govan avoids it really well and circles away.
Atkinson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Govan tries to avoid it but Atkinson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Govan to the ground. Govan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Govan fails to land with a series of punches.
Atkinson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maynard Atkinson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Govan scores with a jab. Atkinson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Govan slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Atkinson is rocked!
Atkinson drops his hands momentarily. Govan doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Atkinson staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Atkinson doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
