Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Connor Kenway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kenway comes to the cage accompanied by Warriors. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Connor Kenway !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Cook!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Chris Dean and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook moves in looking to clinch but Kenway pushes him off.
It looked like Kenway was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Kenway misses with a series of wild punches.
Cook doesn't manage to clinch there - Kenway circles away.
Cook tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cook slips a jab and a cross from Kenway .
Cook fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kenway swats away the attempt to clinch by Cook.
Kenway has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Madz **21 Elite coaches** in the buildup to the fight.
Cook doesn't manage to clinch there - Kenway circles away.
Cook avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cook darts in trying to clinch
and Kenway counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Cook has closed the distance and engaged Kenway in a clinch.
Cook gets underhooks to prevent Kenway 's takedown attempt.
Kenway drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cook pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cook.
Kenway is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Cook throws a body shot but no joy.
Kenway appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Cook tries to clinch
and Kenway counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cook's knee momentarily.
Cook is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cook tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kenway manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cook tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kenway swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As Cook backs away, Kenway returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Cook has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Kenway stuffs the takedown attempt from Cook. Cook gets slowly back to his feet.

Cook tries to clinch up but Kenway circles away and keeps his distance.
Cook fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It looked like Kenway was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cook.

Cook has managed to clinch.
Kenway goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cook prevents it.

Cook's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Cook closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Cook is trying to drag Kenway to the mat but Kenway just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kenway pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cook is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kenway sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kenway ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Kenway circles away from the clinch attempt.

Cook clinches.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Kenway has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cook regains guard immediately.

Kenway throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kenway trying to control the position from guard on top but Cook is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cook is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cook can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cook is trying to control the position but Kenway postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Connor Kenway dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Kenway shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cook's guard.
Cook is looking to stand up but Kenway isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kenway working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Cook throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kenway escapes and throws Cook's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Kenway wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cook, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kenway cracks Cook with a big right hand but Cook just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Cook is trying to get back to half guard.
Kenway wants to control but Cook is keeping him busy.
Kenway throwing strikes but Cook manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Cook is looking to take a break and control but Kenway is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Kenway 's face as Cook controls the position.

Kenway tries to buck Cook off but Cook is having none of it.

Kenway is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cook can do to turn this around?
Cook cracks Kenway with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Kenway has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cook wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kenway keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
James Cook seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cook moves in looking to clinch but Kenway pushes him off.
Kenway keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cook doesn't manage to clinch there - Kenway circles away.
Kenway misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but James Cook will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Cook tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Kenway avoids it.

Kenway takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

James Cook seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Cook tries to throw a body punch but Kenway avoids it by throwing Cook back against the cage.
Cook with a knee to the head.
Cook prevents a takedown attempt there.
Cook gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kenway .
Kenway being controlled against the cage.
Kenway has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Cook after a bit of a struggle.

Cook is pushing Kenway up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Cook tightens his grip and picks Kenway up, before dumping him to the ground. Kenway manages to land in guard.
Cook trying to control but Kenway is working from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cook's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Kenway working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cook's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Let's hope that Cook has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Cook comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cook has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, James Cook was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
