Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henry Achilles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Monty Jacoby! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jacoby moves into range and clinches up with Achilles. Jacoby lands a nice shot to the body. Jacoby pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Achilles fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jacoby avoids it really well and circles away. Jacoby takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Jacoby takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Jacoby scores with a punch to the head. Jacoby moves into the clinch successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jacoby is trying to break free. A right handed body shot lands from Jacoby.
Jacoby lands a shot to the body. Jacoby's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Achilles drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jacoby scores with a hook to the body. Achilles takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Achilles tries to close the distance and clinch but Jacoby swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. And Jacoby tries to counter it with a takedown but Achilles pushes his down on his head and steps out. Achilles tries to clinch but Jacoby moves away and Jacoby counters with a lovely straight right hand! A jab from Jacoby finds it's way through Achilles's defenses. Jacoby shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Achilles napping and manages to drive through into side control! Achilles trying to remain calm as Jacoby controls from the top position. Achilles wants to control but Jacoby postures up. Achilles tries to bench press Jacoby off him but Jacoby keeps the position. Achilles stops Jacoby from passing to mount. Jacoby is staying tight to Achilles's torso, preventing him from escaping.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Achilles is looking to reverse the position. Achilles is letting Jacoby control him for a moment. Jacoby wants to control but Achilles is keeping him busy. Achilles tries to bench press Jacoby off him but Jacoby keeps the position. This has been an exciting period of action! Jacoby misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Achilles is trying to escape the position but Jacoby is controlling the position. Achilles wants to control but Jacoby postures up. Achilles tries to buck Jacoby off but Jacoby is having none of it. We've been hearing good reports from Achilles's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Achilles prevents Jacoby from improving position. Jacoby is looking to take a break and control but Achilles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Jacoby throws out a leg kick but Achilles moves out of range and Jacoby only half commits. Jacoby thuds a left hand into Achilles's body. Monty Jacoby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jacoby darts in and clinches Achilles up against the cage. Achilles misses with a hook from the clinch. Jacoby goes for a takedown in the clinch but Achilles prevents it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Jacoby scores with a hook to the body. Jacoby lands a right hand that snaps the head of Achilles backwards. Jacoby managing to block the knees to the body from Achilles.
Achilles jumps guard but Jacoby turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Achilles. That's going to take a lot out of him. Achilles pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jacoby dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Jacoby lands with a shot to the body. Jacoby moves out of range of the body kick. The crowd cheers as Jacoby lands an impressive looking overhand right. Achilles doesn't seem phased though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jacoby throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Achilles. Jacoby dips to his left and cracks Achilles with an uppercut! Achilles throws a body punch but Jacoby moves out of range. Jacoby appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Jacoby slaps away a takedown attempt from Achilles, before circling back to the center of the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Monty Jacoby dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Achilles throws a half hearted mid kick. A momentary lapse in concentration from Achilles enables Jacoby to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Achilles manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Achilles scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Achilles misses with a double jab.
Achilles dives in and grabs Jacoby's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jacoby pushes down on Achilles's head and hops out. Jacoby let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Nice body punch from Jacoby. Jacoby tests Achilles's chin there with a solid looking shot. Achilles tries for a takedown but Jacoby sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Achilles is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jacoby lands a jab to the nose. Achilles gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Jacoby counters with a lovely straight right hand! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Achilles. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jacoby cracks a nice hook into Achilles's ribs. Henry Achilles is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jacoby scores with a sloppy right hand. Achilles should have avoided that one. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacoby drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Jacoby is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Achilles bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jacoby's guard. Jacoby seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Jacoby keeping moving, preventing Achilles from controlling successfully. Jacoby has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Jacoby looking to hit a scissor sweep but Achilles is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacoby is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Achilles tries to get to full guard but Jacoby has control of the leg. Jacoby not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Jacoby wants to control but Achilles is keeping him busy. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Achilles is really struggling to control Jacoby but he's trying to hold on to the position. Jacoby with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Jacoby is pushing down on Achilles's leg trying to pass to half guard. Achilles is fighting to maintain full guard but Jacoby has managed to sneak the leg through. Achilles is trying to maintain the position but Jacoby is very close to passing his half guard. Achilles tries to roll over but Jacoby keeps him under control. Jacoby trying to mount his opponent but Achilles defends it. Achilles on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Achilles tries to get out of the position. Jacoby content to control rather than advance. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Achilles throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jacoby was covering up waiting for the punch and Achilles finishes the takedown easily into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jacoby wants to sweep here but Achilles controlling him for the moment. Jacoby is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Monty Jacoby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Achilles has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Jacoby stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. A short right hand to the side of the head by Jacoby. Achilles takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Jacoby lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

That's one minute gone in the round. Jacoby closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Achilles regains full guard. Nicely done. Jacoby pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Achilles is keeping the position for now. Jacoby stays in close to Achilles's body and controls the position. Jacoby preventing the sweep. Jacoby is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Jacoby's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Achilles looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacoby showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jacoby prevents Achilles from getting back to his feet. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Jacoby postures up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Achilles wants to clinch up but Jacoby keeps it at a distance. Jacoby fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Achilles, pushing him back against the cage. Jacoby lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Jacoby presses Achilles against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Achilles goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jacoby prevents it.

Achilles is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Jacoby lands a body punch in the clinch. Jacoby breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Achilles slips a jab and a cross from Jacoby.

Jacoby controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Jacoby is working Achilles over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Jacoby controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Monty Jacoby is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Achilles keeping full guard, as Jacoby tries to pass. Jacoby must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Jacoby prevents Achilles from getting back to his feet. Jacoby is stalling in the full guard. Jacoby sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Achilles's guard. Jacoby perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Monty Jacoby has got the better of the ground game so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jacoby looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
And that's the end of the fight! Monty Jacoby comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Jacoby has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
