PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Mayo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mayo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Super Furry Animals - Golden Retriever. On his way into the cage it seems that Steve Rogers has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Steve Rogers seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 44 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 36 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Mayo!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayo throws a leg kick
and Rogers counters with a nice uppercut.
Rogers throws a nice looking combination but Mayo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Rogers closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mayo's guard.
Mayo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mayo wants to improve his position but instead Rogers has moved into half guard.
Rogers works his way into full mount!

Rogers is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Mayo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Mayo bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mayo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rogers is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mayo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Rogers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mayo's guard.

Mayo is trying to control the position but Rogers postures up.
Mayo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Steve Rogers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rogers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mayo circles away quickly and effectively.

Mayo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rogers blocks it with crossed arms.
Rogers tries to circle away but Mayo has him pinned against the cage.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mayo. Rogers does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mayo throws a big shot that misses.
Rogers misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mayo counters with a body kick.
Rogers fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rogers sets himself, and Mayo steps forward looking for the clinch! Rogers avoids it this time.
Mayo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mayo wants it to stay on the feet.

Rogers dives in and grabs Mayo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mayo pushes down on Rogers's head and hops out.

Rogers lands a really nice looking cross but Mayo seems unphased.
Mayo looks to land a right hand but Rogers moved out of range.
Rogers went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A frustrated look appears on Rogers's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mayo prevents a takedown attempt there.

Rogers turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Mayo sneaks out the side door and pushes Rogers away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Mayo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chris Mayo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Mayo leaves Rogers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Mayo's corner calls for a 1-2. Mayo obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.


Rogers is rocked!
Mayo lands a big right hook! Rogers looks hurt but is still standing! Mayo lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Rogers falls down and Mayo dives in with a huge hammer fist! Rogers's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Mayo runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Chris Mayo!
Chris Mayo really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Crushed Designs (90% return on laundry service) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
