PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pete Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Henze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pete Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Henze!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Henze pinned against the cage. Henze gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Henze shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Marquez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marquez trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marquez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Henze doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Henze manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Henze seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Henze passes Marquez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Henze perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Henze postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Marquez to stand up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Henze is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Henze clinches up against the cage.

Henze manages to break the clinch.
Marquez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Henze counters with an outside leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pete Marquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Henze drives through and clinches with Marquez against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Henze obliges.
Marquez is breathing heavily.

It looks like Pete Marquez has been cut.

Henze breaks from the clinch.

Henze looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Marquez!
Henze has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Marquez!

Henze is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Marquez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Marquez shrugs it off.
Henze throws a sloppy strike and Marquez uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Marquez has ended up in Henze's guard.
Henze is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Marquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Marquez is fighting to break Henze's control of his arms but Henze is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Marquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Henze seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Marquez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Henze tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marquez is in Henze's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Henze manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Henze keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Marquez's efforts to push away.

Henze turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Henze decides to stand back up.

Henze looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Marquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Henze gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Henze is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Henze throws an elbow that misses. Marquez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Henze's guard. Nice move by Marquez!

Henze is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marquez is controlling him.

Henze is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Marquez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Henze is working away from the top position though.
Henze is looking to stall here but Marquez recovers full guard.

Henze gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Marquez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Henze did well to prevent Marquez getting side control.

Henze is looking for a sweep. Marquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Henze closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Marquez did well to prevent Henze getting side control.

Henze is taking a breather. Marquez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Marquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Marquez is staying active underneath Henze, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Marquez really is a fat lump.
Marquez is trying to get back to full guard.

Henze seems to be working for a kimura but Marquez defends the submission attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Marquez is not content to let Henze control the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Horrible takedown attempt by Marquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Henze, which made it look bad.
Henze throws a body shot but no joy.
Henze's jab looks to have found its range, popping Marquez under the eye.

Henze lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Henze is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marquez's half guard.
Henze is trying to control. Marquez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Marquez gets back to full guard.
Marquez wants to sweep here but Henze controlling him for the moment.
Henze postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Henze won't allow Marquez to sweep him here.

Henze is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marquez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marquez has escaped and now he's on top!

Henze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Henze wants to sweep here but Marquez controlling him for the moment.

Henze has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marquez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pete Marquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Eduardo Henze is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Henze changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Henze has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
