Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Felix Edwards! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rob Harris! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edwards shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Harris sprawls well. Harris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Edwards gets slowly back to his feet. Harris fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Edwards, pushing him back against the cage. Harris blocks a body shot from Edwards. Edwards tries to stall but Harris uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Edwards is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Edwards lands with a right to the head. Edwards taking a breather. Harris gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Edwards is controlling Harris's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harris throwing strikes from guard but Edwards blocks nicely. Harris being controlled here momentarily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! The fighters are working up against the cage. Edwards manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Harris letting Edwards take a breather here. Edwards lands with a light punch inside. Edwards's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Edwards ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Edwards no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Harris really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Edwards. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Edwards is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Edwards looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Edwards working for a triangle but Harris defends it easily.
Edwards is adopting a defensive guard. Harris is in close to Edwards's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edwards is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Edwards throws his legs up looking for a submission but Harris uses it to pass to side control.
Harris wants to stand but Edwards is controlling his arm. Who's going to make the next move? Harris wants to stand but Edwards has his arm trapped. Harris tries to move to mount but Edwards blocks the move with his legs. Edwards can't do much from the bottom here. Harris misses with the ground and pound. Harris wants to stand but Edwards is controlling his arm. Edwards wants to control but Harris postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edwards manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Harris missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Edwards keeping control of the position. Edwards's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Harris throwing shots but Edwards is blocking nicely. Harris is trying to control. Edwards wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Harris thows a huge punch but Edwards dodges it nicely.
Edwards wants to get back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Harris passes into side control, despite Edwards's attempt to control the position.
Edwards gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Harris not landing any meaningful shots this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Felix Edwards will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Harris gets a double leg takedown into Edwards's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edwards is on top in guard.
Edwards working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Harris's head. Edwards scoring with punches to the head and body. Edwards working some strikes from top position. Harris throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Harris throws his legs up looking for a submission but Edwards uses it to pass to side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harris trying to control but Edwards flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! Harris is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edwards is persistently looking for the submission but Harris is defending it well.
Edwards is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Harris has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Edwards has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Harris taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Edwards doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Felix Edwards!
