Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roy Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lu Ming! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ming as he jumps to the side. Nelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ming pinned against the cage. Ming gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ming misses with a takedown and Nelson counters with a takedown into side control. Nelson lands some shots froms side control. Nelson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ming can do anything to dispel that myth. Nelson is breathing heavily. You can see the frustration on Ming's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nelson scores with a couple of short elbows. Ming wants to control but Nelson postures up. Nelson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Ming throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson is putting a hurting on Ming here, landing some big shots from side control. Ming is looking for a sweep. Ming wants to control but Nelson postures up. Nelson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ming is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ming is looking to regain half guard here but Nelson keeps moving and retains side control. Nelson is putting a hurting on Ming here, landing some big shots from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Ming wants to get back to his feet. Nelson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ming has escaped the position, nice work there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ming prevents Nelson from moving into mount. You can see the frustration on Ming's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nelson tries to advance to mount but Ming denies him. Nelson moves into full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson has hold of Ming's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ming manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Nelson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ming is surviving well by controlling Nelson's body position as best he can. Nelson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Nelson really is a fat lump. Ming is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Ming defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nelson. Ming can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ming working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Nelson dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ming lands a jab-cross combination. Nelson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Ming wants to get back to his feet but Nelson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Nelson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Roy Nelson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nelson working some strikes from top position. Nelson forces his way into half guard. Nelson in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ming tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Nelson!
