Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Gilbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Abbot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 11 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Gilbert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Abbot! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Konstantin Menshow and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abbot loads up on a big right hand but Gilbert slips the punch. Gilbert is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Abbot. Gilbert tries to score a power double leg takedown but Abbot sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gilbert somewhat. Gilbert shoots and misses so Abbot counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Abbot slips nicely into half guard. Gilbert is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Russian Fighting Community Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Abbot is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gilbert is just riding it out for now. Abbot eventually gives up the hold. Abbot prevents Gilbert from improving his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gilbert is working hard here to advance position. Gilbert looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Gilbert scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Abbot manages to mount him!

Abbot is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gilbert to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gilbert shrugs it off. Gilbert is desperately trying to improve his position but Abbot has a good base and remains in mount. Abbot controlling his opponent. Abbot manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gilbert to take his back! Abbot keeps control of the position as Gilbert tries to break free.

Abbot looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Abbot has his foot on Gilbert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gilbert works his way back into a safe position though. Gilbert is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Abbot is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Abbot has escaped and now he's on top!
Gilbert has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Abbot can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Gilbert might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gilbert is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Gilbert keeping full guard, as Abbot tries to pass.

Gilbert sneaks back into half guard. Still in half guard, Abbot seems content to control. Abbot wants to take a breather but Gilbert is having none of it. Gilbert is in trouble now - Abbot has advanced to mount! Abbot content just to control the position here. Abbot takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Gilbert says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Let's hope that Abbot has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Abbot uses his free foot to push down on Gilbert's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gilbert. Gilbert wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. A bit of a pause in the action here. Abbot controlling the positon. Gilbert tries to roll but Abbot sticks to his back.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Tony Abbot. Well Abbot has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
