PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Homer Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wang Chung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Homer Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wang Chung!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chung misses with a jab, cross combination.
Chung misses with a body shot.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Chung has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Chung tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Simpson was well out of range. Poor timing from Chung.
Simpson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Simpson gets tackled into the cage by Chung. Chung maintains the clinch.

Chung manages to break the clinch.
Wang Chung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chung throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Simpson counters with a shoot takedown. Chung fights it but they end up in guard.
Chung is trying to keep Simpson in close.
Chung is pulling down on Simpson's head. It's preventing any offense from Simpson, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simpson wants to control from the top but Chung keeps moving.

Simpson pushes down on Chung's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Simpson controlling the pace.
Chung is trying to get back to full guard.
Chung keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Simpson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Chung reverses the position - he's now on top in Simpson's guard.
Chung stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simpson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chung engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Simpson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Simpson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chung controlling from the top position.
Chung trying to control but Simpson is working from the bottom.
Chung must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Simpson is looking for a triangle but Chung pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Simpson has his foot on Chung's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chung works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Simpson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Simpson.
Simpson won't allow Chung to sweep him here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Homer Simpson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Chung shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Chung was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Simpson is trying to work for a sweep but Chung has mounted him!

Chung jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Simpson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chung looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Simpson is avoiding damage well.

Chung wants to control but Simpson is keeping him busy.
Simpson is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Boston MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
A lull in the action here as Chung stalls from top position.

Chung swings around for an armbar but Simpson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chung's guard.

Chung wants to stand up but Simpson is controlling him.
Chung looking to hit a scissor sweep but Simpson is one step ahead there.
Chung has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Chung not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Simpson trying to control but Chung is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chung is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Simpson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Simpson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Chung is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Chung wants to pass the guard but Simpson is keeping the position.

Simpson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chung is aware though and is defending well.

Wang Chung showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Simpson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Chung rushes Simpson and presses him up against the cage.
Chung tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Simpson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Chung gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Chung turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Chung manages to end up in side control.
Simpson is looking to regain half guard here but Chung keeps moving and retains side control.
Wang Chung has got the better of the ground game so far.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Simpson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Simpson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chung's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chung's back!

Simpson is looking for a sweep. Chung is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Simpson is trying to control but can't.
Chung seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Chung passes into side control, despite Simpson's attempt to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wang Chung comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chung has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
