Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Les Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Akers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Akers will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Les Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Akers!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Padilla stuffs the takedown.
Akers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Padilla pinned against the cage. Padilla gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Akers rushes Padilla and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Akers blocks a body shot from Padilla.
Padilla jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Akers walks away with a smile on his face. Padilla gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Akers dives in and grabs Padilla's left leg, looking for a takedown. Padilla pushes down on Akers's head and hops out.

Akers throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Padilla was covering up waiting for the punch and Akers finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akers wants to pass the guard but Padilla is keeping the position.

Padilla looking to hit a scissor sweep but Akers is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

John Akers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Akers is trying to break the clinch but Padilla is controlling him.

Padilla has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Akers uses from the top position.
Akers works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Akers passes to side control.
Akers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Padilla keeps working.
Padilla tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Akers presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Padilla sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Padilla is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Akers pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Padilla was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Akers will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Padilla bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Akers's guard.

Akers seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

I would just about give that final round to John Akers.
I think Akers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
