Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jimi Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mashrafe Mortaza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mashrafe Mortaza is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimi Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mashrafe Mortaza!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo shoots in looking for a takedown. Mortaza tries to sprawl out of it but Aldo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mortaza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mortaza shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Aldo's guard.
Aldo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Aldo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mortaza is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mortaza is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Aldo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aldo seems to be working for a kimura but Mortaza defends the submission attempt.

Aldo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mortaza rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Aldo's guard! Nice work there by Mortaza!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Aldo is on top in guard.


Mortaza has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Aldo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Aldo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mortaza dives on top into guard.

Aldo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Mashrafe Mortaza dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Aldo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mortaza sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Aldo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mortaza defends it easily.

Mortaza got a little sloppy there for a moment and Aldo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mortaza has managed to get both his arms back between Aldo's legs - danger averted.

Aldo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mortaza is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Aldo, into his guard.

Mortaza sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Aldo's guard.
Aldo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Aldo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mortaza's guard.


Aldo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mortaza manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Aldo has Mortaza in his guard.

Aldo can't keep his opponent in guard - Mortaza advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mortaza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Aldo sees it coming and defends easily.
Aldo tries to get to full guard but Mortaza has control of the leg.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Mortaza seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Aldo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mashrafe Mortaza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Aldo wants to stand but Mortaza has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Aldo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mortaza gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimi Aldo.
Well Mortaza has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
