PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Blood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Blood!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blood drives through and clinches with Castillo against the cage.
Castillo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Blood.

Blood turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Blood manages to end up in side control.
Castillo can't do much from the bottom here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Blood might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Castillo is trying to control Blood's posture but Blood avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A lull in the action here.

Blood tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Blood connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Castillo some visible discomfort.
Castillo can't do much from the bottom here.

Blood decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Blood shoots for a takedown but Castillo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Castillo appears to be looking for a big counter.
No luck for Blood with that takedown attempt.

Blood tries to keep at a distance but Castillo has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Castillo tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Castillo.
Castillo is trying to stall.

Blood has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Castillo uses from the top position.
Castillo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Castillo looking to sit in guard and control but Blood gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Blood chips away with some ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blood trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Blood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Blood's coach down at Roosters Coop was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Blood's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Blood shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Blood was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Blood tries for a kimura but Castillo is defending well.

Blood is trying to get an arm triangle but Castillo is defending well.
Castillo takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Castillo can't do much from the bottom here.
Blood has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Castillo tries to lock up and control but Blood gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Blood is working for a guillotine from mount but Castillo frees his head quite easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blood tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Blood pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Blood takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Castillo has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Castillo is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Blood.

Blood has managed to slip his arm under Castillo's chin. This could be all over... yep, Castillo is tapping out! Submission win for Blood.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Richard Blood!
