PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Braathen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiroshi Hatayama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hatayama has chosen Samurai Soul as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Braathen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Hatayama!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hatayama stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Braathen misses with a straight right.
Hatayama scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Braathen doesn't seem bothered though.
Braathen misses with a hook.
A swing and a miss from Hatayama.
Braathen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Hatayama looks to land a left hand but Braathen moved out of range nicely.
Braathen keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Braathen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Braathen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hatayama throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hatayama falls off balance throwing a combination
and Braathen counters with a straight right hand.
Braathen avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
A jab lands there for Hatayama.
Braathen throws a left and a right that both miss

and Hatayama decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Braathen's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Braathen throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hatayama postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hatayama controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hatayama trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Braathen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hatayama can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hatayama trying to control the position from guard on top but Braathen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hatayama drops back looking for a leg! Braathen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Braathen manages to kick Hatayama off! Hatayama jumps back into Braathen's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Braathen lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Braathen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Braathen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hatayama throws out the jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A bone on bone clash there as Braathen blocks the leg kick.
Daniel Braathen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hatayama throws a wild body kick that Braathen sees coming a mile off.
Braathen scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hatayama in his tracks.
A telegraphed right hand from Hatayama misses the target.
Hatayama misses the jab.

Hatayama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Braathen's guard.

Braathen is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hatayama has his hands clasped together but Braathen extends an breaks Hatayama's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Braathen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Daniel Braathen!
