Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, JJ Bush! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jose Aldo! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Aldo cracks Bush with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Bush staying out of range there. Bush misses with a takedown attempt and Aldo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Bush takes a body punch but keeps moving. Bush takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Bush looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Aldo is fending him off so far but Bush persists. Nope, Aldo circles away and we're back to standing. Aldo throws a body punch but Bush moves out of range. Bush changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Bush keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Aldo throws a poor cross that misses
and Bush counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bush. Aldo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aldo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bush manages to get himself to full guard.
Aldo gets to his feet. Bush looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Aldo has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Aldo sizes up Bush with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. A decent looking body kick lands there for Aldo. Aldo lands a body shot.
Aldo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bush feinted with a counter takedown. Aldo throws a sloppy body shot
and Bush counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Aldo makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Aldo scores with a jab to the head.
Jose Aldo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aldo connects with a right hand. Bush shakes it off. Bush shoots in and drives through. Aldo sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JJ Bush. That's going to take a lot out of him. Aldo lands a nice leg kick that just misses Bush's sensitive parts. Aldo lands a head shot. Aldo misses the shot to the body. Bush attempts a counter takedown but Aldo avoids it well and moves away. Bush shoots in and drives through. Aldo sprawls well. Aldo lands with a cross.
Bush is rocked! Whack! Aldo lands a heavy head kick that drops Bush. The ref tackles Aldo to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Bush was done.
