The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Raworth shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Monson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Monson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've been hearing good reports from Monson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Monson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Raworth connects with a couple of short punches. Raworth trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Raworth trying to control but Monson is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Raworth is in close to Monson's body, working some short punches and elbows. Monson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Raworth got a little sloppy there for a moment and Monson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Raworth has managed to get both his arms back between Monson's legs - danger averted. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Raworth content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Monson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Raworth has eaten all the pies! Raworth has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Monson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Raworth is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Monson pulls down on the head and he's put Raworth to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tony Monson!
