PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ellis Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonny Diamante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sonny Diamante looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ellis Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sonny Diamante!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diamante tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Reed manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Reed dodges the punch combination from Diamante.
Diamante misses with the combination.
Reed could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Diamante drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Diamante trying to control but Reed is working from the bottom.
Diamante won't allow Reed to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diamante throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Reed works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Reed had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diamante defends it easily.
Diamante wants to pass the guard but Reed is keeping the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diamante accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Diamante trying to control but Reed is working from the bottom.

Diamante drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reed looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reed looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reed!

Diamante looks winded!
Diamante is looking for a sweep.
Diamante takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Diamante struggling a bit here.
Diamante is trying to improve his position.

Reed looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reed decides to stand back up. Reed steps back and let's Diamante get back to his feet.

Diamante tries to clinch up but Reed circles away and keeps his distance.
Reed throwing a counter right hand but Diamante manages to avoid it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reed looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Diamante feints the counter takedown.
Diamante misses with a series of wild punches.
Diamante misses with a double jab.

Reed has managed to clinch.
Reed tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Diamante smiles and moves away.

Diamante moves into range and clinches up with Reed.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed is trying to break free.
Reed jumps guard but Diamante turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Diamante's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Reed blocks a head kick by Diamante.

Diamante feints and as Reed raises his hands in defense, Diamante changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diamante wants to stand but Reed has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Diamante postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Diamante has gone for a leg lock! Reed slips out almost immediately though and dives into Diamante's guard.

Reed working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sonny Diamante will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Diamante tries to clinch up but Reed circles away and keeps his distance.
Reed is looking to counter punch.
Diamante moves in looking to clinch but Reed pushes him off.
Reed takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Diamante clinches.

Reed is fighting off a takedown attempt but Diamante is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Reed to the mat. Reed regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Diamante pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Reed is keeping the position for now.
Reed wants to stand and escape but Diamante is having none of it.

Reed might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diamante looking to sit in guard and control but Reed gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reed postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Diamante is breathing heavily.

Reed decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diamante, up you get!
Diamante misses with a wild body shot.
Reed was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Reed moves in looking to clinch but Diamante pushes him off.
Reed tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Diamante tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reed paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Reed swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Diamante throws a nice looking combination but Reed bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Reed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diamante tries to avoid it but Reed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diamante to the ground. Diamante escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Reed slips a jab and a cross from Diamante.

Reed wants to clinch up but Diamante keeps it at a distance.
No joy there for Reed, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sonny Diamante seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diamante closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Reed quickly recovers to half guard.

Reed has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Diamante is on him like a limpet, forcing Reed back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reed tries for a takedown but Diamante manages to get underhooks.
Reed working hard to break the clinch.

Reed pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Diamante scores with a takedown into Reed's guard.

Reed manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Diamante is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Diamante steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Reed.
Reed defending well as Diamante loads up on a big left hand.
Sonny Diamante seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Diamante has Reed up against the cage in a clinch.

Reed has Diamante pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Reed pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Diamante tumbling to the mat - Reed dives into Diamante's guard.
Diamante is wriggling around but Reed manages to pass to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ellis Reed will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Diamante throws a body punch but Reed moves out of range.
Ellis Reed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Diamante tries to bum rush Reed with a series of wild strikes but Reed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Reed was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A combination from Diamante does no damage.
Reed avoids a punch combination nicely.
Reed swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Diamante gets off balance looking for a body kick
letting Reed counter with a right hand.

Reed gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Reed has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Diamante is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reed pulls guard.

Reed working for a triangle but Diamante defends it easily.
Diamante takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Reed uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Reed drives through with a takedown into Diamante's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Diamante wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Reed manages to pass to side control.


Reed is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Diamante doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Reed.

Ellis Reed overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Reed lands a big elbow.
Reed breaks from Diamante's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Diamante is bucking up trying to escape but Reed cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Diamante tries to reverse the position but Reed maintains control.
Reed is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diamante can do to turn this around?
Reed raining down shots from the mount!

Ellis Reed showed his dominance in that final round.
