Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Beast! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nolan Sackett! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sackett stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sackett wants it to stay on the feet. Sackett flicks out a counter leg kick but Beast steps away. Sackett misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Beast.
A little feinted left hand from Beast on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Beast shoots for a takedown but Sackett saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Beast is defended easily by Sackett. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Beast. That's going to take a lot out of him. Beast fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sackett sprawls well initially but Beast persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Sackett makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice sprawl there from Sackett as Beast shoots in. Beast keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Sackett. Sackett turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Beast tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beast doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Sackett to counter with a crisp jab. Sackett with a body punch. A glancing blow. Sackett throws out a loose jab but Beast uses good head movement to avoid it. Sackett has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Beast is landing a low percentage of strikes. Horrible takedown attempt by Beast or perhaps it was just good defense by Sackett, which made it look bad. Sackett throws a big counter head kick but Beast avoids it with no problem. Beast avoids a kick to the body.
Beast connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Sackett misses with a body kick. Beast appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Beast has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Sackett throws a leg kick but Beast sees it coming and checks it nicely. An attempted straight right counter from Beast misses the target. Beast dives in and grabs Sackett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sackett pushes down on Beast's head and hops out. Beast fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sackett manages to avoid it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Beast drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Sackett misses with a kick to the body enabling Beast to counter with a crisp jab. Sackett lands a right hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Beast fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sackett to the ground. Beast is now in Sackett's guard. Sackett pushes Beast off and scrambles back to his feet.
The Beast seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Beast fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Beast drives through with a takedown into guard. Beast pushing down on Sackett's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Sackett wants to control but Beast is keeping busy.
Sackett is positioning himself well to prevent Beast advancing to mount. Sackett has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Beast is working away from the top position though.

Sackett looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Beast is looking to advance position but Sackett won't allow it. Beast performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Sackett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sackett.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Sackett controlling Beast's posture. Sackett is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Sackett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Beast wants to control from the top but Sackett keeps moving. Sackett working a defensive guard here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Beast is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sackett sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nolan Sackett dominated that round. That's time! Beast's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Beast closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sackett circles away. Sackett replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Beast blocks it well. Sackett has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Sackett throws a head kick that misses. Sackett throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Beast counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Sackett misses with a lunging right hand
and Beast cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Beast misses with a takedown attempt - Sackett sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Sackett throws a leg kick that misses. Beast shoots in for a double leg but Sackett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Beast. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sackett throws a head kick but Beast moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sackett throws a sloppy head kick and Beast cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Sackett lands a leg kick that knocks Beast off balance momentarily. Beast is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Sackett misses with a low kick as Beast jumps back. It looked like Beast wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Beast with a lazy takedown attempt and Sackett counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beast sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Beast with a poor takedown and Sackett counters with a left to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sackett chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Beast closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sackett circles away. It seemed like Sackett was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Beast fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Beast steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sackett. Beast is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Sackett scores with a spinning back kick! Beast looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sackett is fending him off so far but Beast persists. Nope, Sackett circles away and we're back to standing. Beast checks a low kick from Sackett. Beast looks for a takedown but Sackett sprawls well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sackett throws a head kick that misses. Excellent takedown into side control there by Beast. Sackett tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Beast is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sackett has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Sackett is trying to get back to his feet but Beast has full control of the position and if anything, Sackett has just worked his way into a worse spot. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Beast is trying to stick to Sackett's back but Sackett is turning into Beast. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Beast's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sackett.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sackett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Beast will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Sackett controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Sackett gets to his feet. Beast looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Sackett throws an off balance right hand
and Beast makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Beast shoots in looking for a takedown. Sackett tries to sprawl out of it but Beast keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sackett manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sackett tries to score with a low kick but Beast moves his leg out of the way. Nolan Sackett seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sackett throws the left hand but Beast avoids the punch easily. Sackett ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Beast shoots in but no luck this time. Sackett looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Sackett connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Nice sprawl there from Sackett as Beast shoots in. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Sackett! But no joy. Sackett looks to score with a jab to the body but Beast is just out of range. Beast shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sackett counters with a head kick that drops Beast to the mat! Beast scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Beast is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sackett lands an uppercut, right on the button! Beast tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.
