Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Nagasaki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Bautista! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bautista tries for a takedown but Nagasaki circles away easily and Nagasaki counters with a thumping low kick. Bautista dives in and grabs Nagasaki's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nagasaki pushes down on Bautista's head and hops out. Nagasaki throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Bautista. Bautista shoots in for a double leg but Nagasaki sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Nagasaki swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Ken Nagasaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryo Bautista. Bautista fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nagasaki connects with an inside leg kick. Bautista fails with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bautista tries for a takedown but Nagasaki circles away easily and Nagasaki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Bautista jumps guard.
Nagasaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Bautista is looking to stand up but Nagasaki isn't so interested in that idea. Bautista looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nagasaki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Nagasaki trying to control but Bautista is working from the bottom. Nagasaki postures up in Bautista's guard and throws a big left but Bautista blocks it. Nagasaki has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Bautista is looking for a triangle but Nagasaki pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nagasaki connects with a couple of short punches. Nagasaki cracks Bautista with a solid left hand. Nagasaki looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Nagasaki is looking to work some ground and pound but Bautista has wrist control. Nagasaki trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Nagasaki in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Bautista looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nagasaki stands up over Bautista, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Nagasaki postures up in Bautista's guard and throws a big left but Bautista blocks it. Nagasaki throws a big right hand that misses. Bautista is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nagasaki is aware though and is defending well. Nagasaki postures up and lands a big shot to Bautista's brow. Nagasaki is looking to work some ground and pound but Bautista has wrist control. Bautista utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bautista preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Nagasaki throwing strikes from guard but Bautista blocks nicely. Bautista is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Nagasaki has his hands clasped together but Bautista extends and breaks Nagasaki's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Bautista.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ryo Bautista! A relieved looking Ryo Bautista thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
