Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Armand Miranda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, King Maddin! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Ackerman and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miranda takes a swing at Maddin's ribcage but misses. Miranda circles away from the clinch attempt so Miranda counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Maddin throws a nice elbow from the bottom. Miranda would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Miranda gets to his feet - Maddin follows without any prompting. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maddin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Miranda quickly recovers to half guard. Miranda trying to control here.
Maddin is pressing down on Miranda's thigh, looking to free his foot. Miranda is holding on for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maddin content to control rather than advance. Miranda tries to roll over but Maddin keeps him under control. Maddin is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Miranda manages to get to full guard. Maddin wants to stand but Miranda is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Maddin controlling from the top position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Maddin postures up.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Maddin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Maddin advances position into side control! Maddin slows the pace down. Maddin looks winded!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maddin is working Miranda over with some ground and pound from side control. Maddin is looking to take a break and control but Miranda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Miranda is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Maddin off and has taken his back! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Miranda is not going to allow Maddin to sit and survive in this position. Miranda is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maddin trying to control the hands but Miranda breaks the grip.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miranda looking for the choke from the back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maddin preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Miranda. Maddin is keeping busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Miranda is hanging on to Maddin's back as he tries to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Armand Miranda dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Miranda looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maddin is fending him off so far but Miranda persists. Nope, Maddin circles away and we're back to standing. Maddin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Maddin tries to get set, Miranda tries to push him back and clinch up but Maddin manages to avoid the attempt. Maddin rushes Miranda and presses him up against the cage. Miranda is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maddin is defending well for now. Maddin lands a takedown into guard.
Maddin is looking to stand up but Miranda won't let him. Miranda is trying to control the position but Maddin postures up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maddin trying to stand up but can't free himself from Miranda's guard. Maddin wants to control from the top but Miranda keeps moving. Maddin is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maddin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miranda swivels though and keeps the full guard. Miranda pushes a forearm under Maddin's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Maddin is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
