PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Billy Tinkl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). White has chosen Fugees - Ready or not as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chris White was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Tinkl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris White!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tinkl moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
White steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tinkl.
White gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Tinkl counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tinkl.

White uses the cage to get back to his feet.
White throws a combination. Tinkl tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tinkl tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. White manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tinkl doesn't succeed with the takedown

White tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Tinkl is looking for the choke from the back position but White is controlling his hands well.

White must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tinkl escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. White gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

White tries to stand but Tinkl is controlling from the bottom.
White wants to stand and escape but instead Tinkl has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

White really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tinkl. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tinkl pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. White is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tinkl wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.
Tinkl is really struggling to control White but he's trying to hold on to the position.
White avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if White can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tinkl prevents White from getting back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
White looks to land a combination but Tinkl avoids it well.
Chris White is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tinkl tries to clinch but White moves out of range.
White looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tinkl steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from White. That one must have hurt.

White manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Tinkl is looking for a takedown.
Tinkl is looking to break free of the clinch but White has double underhooks.

White breaks from the clinch.
White swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Tinkl counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

White has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Tinkl is on him like a limpet, forcing White back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris White dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chris White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tinkl walks into a left hand.
White throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Tinkl counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for White!
White takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Tinkl is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, White has escaped the position, nice work there.

White manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Tinkl is trying to drag White to the mat but White just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Tinkl has hold of one of White's legs. White is fighting the takedown attempt but Tinkl gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Tinkl thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tinkl passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tinkl wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by White, who protects the arm well.

Tinkl is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. White knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tinkl creates some space and throws a big elbow, but White sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That was a close second round but I would say that Billy Tinkl will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


White swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Tinkl goes for a double leg but White avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as White continues to drive forward.
White closes the distance and lands a one-two.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Tinkl. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Tinkl not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

White throws a hook to the side of Tinkl's head but Tinkl sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Tinkl closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming White to the mat! White manages to get full guard.
White is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Tinkl dives into side control.
White takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tinkl is looking to take a break and control but White is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tinkl goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, White has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tinkl but great work by White.

Chris White comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think White has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
