PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carrol Randolph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bora Mane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carrol Randolph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bora Mane!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randolph dives in for a single leg takedown but Mane sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Mane fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Randolph looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Mane closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Randolph did well to prevent Mane getting side control.
Mane wants to free his trapped foot but Randolph is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Randolph is looking for a sweep. Mane is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mane slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mane works his foot free and advances to mount.
Randolph wants to hold on but Mane pushes him away.

Randolph is in a horrible position here. Mane smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mane won't let Randolph get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Mane tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Randolph is looking to escape.

Mane goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Randolph is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Randolph missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Randolph looking to sit in guard and control but Mane gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mane pushing down on Randolph's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Randolph is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mane's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mane's back!
Randolph keeps control of the position as Mane tries to break free.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Randolph gets a double leg takedown into Mane's guard.
Mane throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Mane has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Randolph can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Randolph slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Randolph would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Randolph loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mane wants to sweep but no luck.

Randolph gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mane misses with a series of wild punches.

Randolph is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mane lands a nice short elbow.
Mane wants to pass to mount but Randolph is defending the position.

Mane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Randolph defends it well.

Randolph gets back to full guard.
Randolph wants to stand up but Mane is controlling him.
Mane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mane wants to stand but Randolph has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mane decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mane content to control rather than advance.
Randolph wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Randolph is looking to improve his position.
Mane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bora Mane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Mane closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Randolph wants to get back to his feet.
Mane is controlling the pace.

Mane looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Randolph with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mane content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Mane postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Randolph is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Carrol Randolph is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Randolph shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mane as he avoids it easily.

Mane feints and as Randolph raises his hands in defense, Mane changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mane passes Randolph's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mane works his foot free and advances to mount.
Mane scoring with strikes but Randolph is staying in there.
Mane controlling the pace for now.

Randolph is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mane is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mane has escaped and now he's on top!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mane tries to free his leg and advance position but Randolph is retaining full guard.
Carrol Randolph has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bora Mane is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Randolph escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bora Mane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
