Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alec Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Toby Quail! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Quail was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnson. Quail attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Quail has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Johnson is landing a low percentage of strikes. Quail throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Quail circles away easily and Johnson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Quail drives through with a takedown into guard. Johnson has his hands on Quail's head, controlling the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quail throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Johnson wants to control from the top but Quail keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Quail pulls Johnson in to control the position. Johnson pushing down on Quail's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Johnson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
