The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waqa just misses with a punch to the body.
Waqa throws a leg kick but Dawson sees it coming and moves out of range.
Dawson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dawson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dawson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Waqa.
And Dawson responds with a good body kick, but Waqa manages to step out the way in time.
Dawson looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Waqa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dawson quickly recovers to half guard.
Still in half guard, Waqa seems content to control.
Dawson is staying active underneath Waqa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
