Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cronos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronos comes to the cage accompanied by Sandstorm. Jose Cronos has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Cronos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Newman! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newman misses with a body kick. It looked like Cronos wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Newman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nice jab there from Cronos. A low kick from Newman misses and Cronos makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Newman gets the takedown into side control. Newman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cronos has escaped the position, nice work there. Cronos tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Cronos trying to control the action but Newman just sinks the hooks in. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Newman thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. Newman missing with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newman is persistently looking for the submission but Cronos is defending it well.

Cronos trying to control the position but Newman manages to sink in the hooks. Cronos manages to stand up with Newman still on his back. Eventually Newman drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position. Newman slips under a jab from Cronos.
That's two minutes gone in the round. No luck for Cronos with that takedown attempt. A combination from Newman does no damage. Cronos is looking to counter punch. Cronos cracks Newman with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Cronos dips to his left and cracks Newman with an uppercut! Cronos has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Newman finds it's way round the side to connect with Cronos's head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Newman misses with a looping left. Cronos swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nice jab there from Newman. Newman misses with a hook
and Cronos counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Cronos keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Newman throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Cronos throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Newman wants to clinch up but Cronos keeps it at a distance. Newman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Cronos throws a head kick but Newman moves out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newman connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Newman throws out a leg kick but Cronos moves out of range and Newman only half commits. Newman blocks a low kick nicely. Newman feints the counter takedown. Cronos throws a looping overhand right but Newman ducks down to avoid it. A decent looking cross lands there for Newman. Newman misses with a hook. Cronos ducked under it nicely. Cronos is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Newman has closed the distance and engaged Cronos in a clinch.

Newman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cronos sprawls well. Cronos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Newman gets slowly back to his feet. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Newman, right into the meat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cronos tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Newman was well out of range. Poor timing from Cronos. Cronos misses with a looping right. Newman misses with a takedown and Cronos counters with a two punch combo. Newman misses with a takedown attempt and Cronos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Jose Cronos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Newman. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cronos misses with a looping right. Cronos misses the shot to the body. Cronos throws a head kick but Newman moves out of range.
Cronos uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Newman. Cronos darts in looking for a takedown but Newman gets double underhooks and turns Cronos into the cage. Cronos moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromNewman. Decent striking displayed by Newman there. Cronos throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Cronos scores to the head and body with a nice combination! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Paul Newman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cronos misses with a looping right. Nice takedown defense from Cronos. No joy for Newman on that attempt. It looked like Cronos was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Newman. Newman misses the body punch and Cronos cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Newman cracks Cronos with a right hand to the side of the head. Newman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Cronos swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cronos takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Cronos displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Newman throws out the jab. The fighters circling - Newman throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Cronos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Newman but Newman pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cronos takes a swing at Newman's ribcage but misses. Newman throws a low kick but Cronos moves out of range easily. No joy there for Cronos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Newman throws a lazy body kick and Cronos counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Newman thinking. Cronos throws a head kick that misses. The crowd cheers as Cronos lands an impressive looking overhand right. Newman doesn't seem phased though. This has been an exciting period of action! Newman throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Cronos is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Cronos has a takedown stuffed. Newman tries to clinch but Cronos is having none of it. Newman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. An attempted straight right counter from Cronos misses the target. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Newman lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cronos has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cronos and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. A quick step to the side and Cronos tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Newman ducks under a wild hook from Cronos. Newman throws a jab when Cronos was well out of range. The fighters circling - Newman throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A little feinted left hand from Cronos on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Newman with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cronos fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Cronos. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cronos uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Newman. Cronos attempts a counter takedown but Newman avoids it well and moves away. Newman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cronos. Cronos drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Newman walks into a stiff left hand from Cronos. Cronos ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Cronos was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Cronos throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Newman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Newman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Newman wants it to stay on the feet. Newman looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Cronos dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Newman gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Newman is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cronos's half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Newman trying to control the action but Cronos is working from the bottom. Cronos tries to kick Newman off but Newman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Cronos manages to get to full guard.
Cronos has his foot on Newman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Newman works his way back into a safe position though. Cronos is looking for a triangle but Newman pushes his legs off easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Newman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Newman wants to control from the top but Cronos keeps moving. The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Newman scores with a nice strike. Newman misses with a left hand enabling Cronos to counter with a crisp jab. A nice leg kick lands there from Newman. Cronos throws an off balance right hand
and Newman counters with a good low kick that Cronos was not able to check. Newman tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Newman lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cronos at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newman uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Newman has a takedown stuffed. Newman throws a big shot that misses. Cronos is looking to counter punch. Cronos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cronos is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Newman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Newman can't do much from the bottom here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cronos controlling the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but Jose Cronos did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Newman rushes Cronos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Cronos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Newman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cronos.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Newman is on top in guard.
Cronos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Newman content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Newman throws a big elbow that misses. Newman scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cronos tries to land a sweep but no joy. Newman is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Cronos has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Newman is looking to defend but Cronos has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Newman! Cronos pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Newman taps out and this one is all over!
