PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marx Bronson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Marx Bronson!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Bronson moves into full guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Silva's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Bronson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace.

Silva is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Bronson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bronson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Silva is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bronson.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Silva tries for a kimura but Bronson is defending well.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bronson, who protects the arm well.

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bronson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Bronson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Silva is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bronson sees it coming and defends easily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silva in particular looking to stall.
Bronson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Bronson tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg.

Silva is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bronson is just riding it out for now. Silva eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Silva tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bronson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Silva seems to be looking for submissions.
Silva is pressing down on Bronson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bronson is holding on for now.
Silva uses his free foot to push down on Bronson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bronson.

Silva is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Bronson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bronson shrugs it off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Silva prevents Bronson from getting the reversal.
Bronson prevents Silva from taking his back.
Bronson tries to lock up and control but Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roberto Silva dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bronson shoots in for a double leg but Silva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Roberto Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva slaps away a takedown attempt from Bronson, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bronson is looking for a sweep. Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bronson gets back to full guard.

Silva drops back looking for a leg! Bronson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bronson manages to kick Silva off! Silva jumps back into Bronson's guard.

Silva is pushing down on Bronson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bronson is fighting to maintain full guard but Silva has managed to sneak the leg through.

Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bronson is wriggling around trying to escape.

Bronson is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Silva's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Silva is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bronson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Silva has managed to slip his arm under Bronson's chin. This could be all over... yep, Bronson is tapping out! Submission win for Silva.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Roberto Silva!
A relieved looking Roberto Silva thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
