Gerson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is RAP JIU-JITSU. Ricardo Gerson has the better chin. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricardo Gerson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Frank Lopez! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lopez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Lopez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gerson manages to avoid it. Gerson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at London MMA Club in the buildup to the fight. Lopez throws a leg kick but Gerson moved away. Lopez looks to throw the jab but Gerson is out of range. Gerson fails with the takedown letting Lopez counter with a right hand. Lopez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gerson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lopez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gerson was well out of range. Poor timing from Lopez. Gerson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Lopez counters with a right hand to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Some bone on bone action there as Gerson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Lopez throws a body punch but Gerson moves out of range. Lopez throws a body punch but Gerson moves out of range. A little feinted left hand from Gerson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Gerson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lopez is fending him off so far but Gerson persists. Nope, Lopez circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Gerson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lopez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gerson was well out of range. Poor timing from Lopez. Gerson ducks under a wild hook from Lopez. A counter left hand to the body from Gerson misses its target. Lopez throws a leg kick that misses. Gerson seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Gerson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gerson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Lopez. Gerson blocks a jab. Gerson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Lopez turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. A shot to the liver by Lopez. Beautiful body shot. Gerson tries for a takedown but Lopez circles away easily and Lopez counters with a lovely straight right hand! Lopez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gerson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Gerson in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Lopez is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
