PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Beach Bum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Cardoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cardoza has chosen Holy See as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Beach Bum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luis Cardoza!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bum stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


It looks like Luis Cardoza has been cut.
Cardoza shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bum sprawls well. Bum wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cardoza gets slowly back to his feet.

Cardoza forces Bum back against the cage and clinches.
Bum prevents the takedown attempt.

Bum has clasped his hands together around Cardoza's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Bum goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cardoza has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bum but great work by Cardoza.
Bum can't do much from the bottom here.
Bum is looking for a sweep.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cardoza is looking to take a break and control but Bum is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Bum's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cardoza in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bum is looking for a sweep.
Cardoza taking a breather here.
Bum manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Bum is looking to advance position but Cardoza won't allow it.
Bum is just content to waste time from the top position. Cardoza takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Bum wants to control from the top but Cardoza keeps moving.
Cardoza looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Bum postures up.
Cardoza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bum's guard.

Cardoza wants to control from the top but Bum keeps moving.
Cardoza stands and throws Bum's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Bum is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Bum is working hard here to advance position.
Bum prevents Cardoza from moving into mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cardoza trying to control the position but Bum is working away.
Bum can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Beach Bum will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Luis Cardoza's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cardoza rushes Bum and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Bum has a couple of punches blocked by Cardoza.
Bum lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Cardoza jumps into guard, dragging Bum to the mat.
Bum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cardoza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bum works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Bum wants to work for an arm triangle but Cardoza is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cardoza makes his way to full guard, as Bum worked for a kimura.
Bum pushes down on Cardoza's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bum tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cardoza knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Cardoza is trying to maintain the position but Bum is very close to passing his half guard.

Bum is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cardoza is defending against the submission attempts here by Bum.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cardoza slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Bum looking to sit in guard and control but Cardoza gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cardoza's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cardoza passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Cardoza trying to control the action but Bum is working from the bottom.
Bum is trying to control Cardoza's posture but Cardoza avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bum tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cardoza moves into full mount!
Cardoza wants to control the pace but Bum is squirming around nicely.
Cardoza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Bum is looking to improve his position but Cardoza isn't that keen on the idea.
Cardoza fails to take his opponent's back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cardoza takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bum can't escape the position.
Cardoza controlling from the full mount.
Bum is wriggling around trying to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bum is controlling an arm, preventing Cardoza from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Bum is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luis Cardoza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Cardoza misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cardoza shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bum pinned against the cage. Bum gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bum swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Bum looks to land a right hand but Cardoza moved out of range.
Cardoza dives in and grabs Bum's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bum pushes down on Cardoza's head and hops out.
Beach Bum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Cardoza.
Bum scores with a sloppy right hand. Cardoza should have avoided that one.
Cardoza dives in for a single leg takedown but Bum sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bum circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cardoza ducks under a wild hook from Bum.
Good exchange - Bum coming out on top.
Bum connects with a body shot.
Cardoza is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bum looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bum feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cardozas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Cardoza shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bum defends it nicely.

Bum misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cardoza.

Bum moves into the clinch.
A short left from Bum.
Bum lands a nice uppercut.
Cardoza is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bum is defending well.

Bum breaks the clinch.
Cardoza shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bum but Bum pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Luis Cardoza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bum gets a double leg takedown into Cardoza's guard.
Bum advances to half guard.
Cardoza tries to get to full guard but Bum has control of the leg.

Bum has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Cardoza defend it? Bum steps over the head and cranks it - Cardoza is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Bum!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Beach Bum!
Beach Bum decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
Luis Cardoza was interviewed post fight and said 'I was robbed god damn it.....Jesus christ, this place is hell !!!'.
