PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Star Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sampo Rinne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sampo Rinne told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Star Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sampo Rinne!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rinne tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A lazy left from Rinne finds it's target.
Rinne is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Man.
Man avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Man takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Man tries for a takedown but Rinne circles away easily
and Rinne makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Nice uppercut there from Rinne.
Rinne cracks Man with a good jab.
Rinne tests Man's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rinne connects with a nice looking jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rinne lands a nice looking body shot.
Rinne takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Rinne throws out a powerful jab.
Man misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rinne fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Man manages to avoid it.
Rinne misses with an uppercut.
Rinne works Man's body with a nice hook.
Rinne steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Man. That one must have hurt.
Rinne cracks Man with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Rinne scores with a jab to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Man.
Man avoids the body shot from Rinne.
Rinne misses with a wild body shot.
Man looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Rinne jabs Man to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rinne clobbers Man with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Man lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Man misses with an attempted mid kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rinne blocks a head kick by Man.
Sampo Rinne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rinne. Man does a little dance to reset his feet.
Man throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rinne on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Man looks to throw a body kick
and Rinne counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Man on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rinne works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Man does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Man misses with a low kick.
Rinne lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Man needs to keep his hands up - Rinne had a free shot at his head there.
Rinne comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Rinne.
Rinne lands with a cross.
Rinne lands with a cross.
Man throws a head kick that misses.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rinne! But no joy.
Man throws a hook but Rinne blocks it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A good leg kick by Man.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Man blocks an uppercut.
Rinne is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Rinne working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Rinne is pushing Man up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Rinne keeps control of Man as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rinne stalls.
We've been informed that Rinne has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A right hook to the body lands for Rinne.
Rinne lands with a right to the head.
Man is working for takedown but Rinne is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rinne lands a hook to the side of the head.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Stalling in the clinch from Rinne.
Rinne displaying some good clinch control by pressing Man up against the cage.
The crowd are getting on Rinne's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Man wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sampo Rinne dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rinne checks a leg kick.
A nice side step and Rinne releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Rinne thuds his right hand into Man's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Man throws a head kick that misses.
Man misses with an attempted mid kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rinne. Man does a little dance to reset his feet.
Man throws a quick counter head kick but Rinne was just out of range.
Rinne lands a nice looking body shot.

Rinne closes the distance and clinches.
Man has had enough of the clinch but Rinne keeps him there for the moment.
Rinne lands a right hand.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Rinne.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rinne leaning his opponent against the cage.
Rinne lands a right hand that snaps the head of Man backwards.

Man jumps guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Man is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Rinne rolls with it to try and escape but Man cranks on the arm and Rinne is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Star Man!
