The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avia tries for a takedown but Meese sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Meese fails to land with a series of punches.
Avia throws a head kick that misses
and Meese counters with a stiff right hand.

It looks like Carlos Avia has been cut.
Avia fails with a takedown attempt.
Avia shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Avia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Avia.
Meese now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Meese lands the left hand.
Meese throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Meese manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Avia has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Meese uses from the top position.

Avia is working an open guard so Meese takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Meese lands with a nice body punch.

Avia tries to close the distance and clinch but Meese swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Meese lands a glancing blow to the side of Avia's head.
Meese batters Avia with a massive right followed by a huge left! Avia is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Meese lands a final crushing right hand to drop Avia to the mat with a gruesome thud! Meese is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
