PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kadas Kurapanu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Vermeer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kadas Kurapanu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Vermeer!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermeer misses with a two punch combination.
Kurapanu fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kurapanu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Vermeer throws a body shot but no joy.
Kurapanu closes the distance and clinches up with Vermeer, looking for a takedown. Kurapanu pushes Vermeer against the cage but Vermeer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kadas Kurapanu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kurapanu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vermeer pinned against the cage. Vermeer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kurapanu goes for a double leg but Vermeer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Vermeer continues to drive forward.
A little jabbing left from Vermeer on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Vermeer ducks right into an uppercut from Kurapanu.
Kurapanu definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Kurapanu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Vermeer.

Vermeer is looking to stand up but Kurapanu isn't so interested in that idea.

Kurapanu postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vermeer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kurapanu, into his guard.

Kurapanu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kurapanu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vermeer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vermeer would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kurapanu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kurapanu tries to get out of the position.
Vermeer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kurapanu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vermeer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

I think Vermeer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
