Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Giacomo Benvenuti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Mctanned (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benvenuti kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Black Eye Peas - Let's get retarded. 30 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Mctanned! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benvenuti waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mctanned. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mctanned has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Benvenuti gets off balance looking for a body kick and Mctanned counters with a shoot takedown. Benvenuti fights it but they end up in guard. Benvenuti has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Mctanned off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Benvenuti sends Mctanned crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Benvenuti is motioning to the referee to let Mctanned up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
It looks like Paul Mctanned has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Benvenuti throws a right and a left that Mctanned avoids nicely. Mctanned showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Benvenuti.

and Mctanned counters with a slapping leg kick. Benvenuti throws a looping overhand right but Mctanned ducks down to avoid it. Mctanned with the counter takedown but Benvenuti avoids it easily. Benvenuti will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

It looks like Giacomo Benvenuti has been cut. Mctanned pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Benvenuti is keeping the position for now. Benvenuti utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Mctanned throwing strikes but missing. Mctanned trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Mctanned has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Benvenuti wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mctanned is now in half guard. Mctanned is looking for a kimura but Benvenuti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mctanned to get the leverage. Mctanned throwing shots but Benvenuti is blocking nicely. Mctanned throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Mctanned missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mctanned lands a nice short elbow. Mctanned throwing shots but Benvenuti is blocking nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benvenuti wants to get back to full guard. Benvenuti makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Benvenuti. Mctanned postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Benvenuti trying to keep a closed guard but Mctanned is proving a slippery customer.
Mctanned is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Benvenuti managing to control the position. Mctanned works over Benvenuti with some ground and pound from guard. Mctanned wants to pass the guard but Benvenuti is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Benvenuti is adopting a defensive guard. Benvenuti controls Mctanned momentarily but Mctanned frees himself. Benvenuti managing to control the position. Mctanned lands a couple of decent looking shots. Mctanned tries to free his leg and advance position but Benvenuti is retaining full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mctanned chips away with some ground and pound. Benvenuti wants to control but Mctanned passes easily into half guard.

A close round but Paul Mctanned will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Benvenuti. Giacomo Benvenuti is winning the standup battle so far. Benvenuti misses with a leg kick and Mctanned counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Mctanned not landing any meaningful shots this time. Benvenuti controlling the position for now. Benvenuti wants to control but Mctanned is keeping busy.
Mctanned is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ground and pound from Mctanned. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Benvenuti wants to get back to full guard. Mctanned tries to pass to full mount but Benvenuti defends it. Benvenuti is trying to maintain the position but Mctanned is very close to passing his half guard.

Paul Mctanned decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
