PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carson William (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matanel Barak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barak has chosen warrior as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carson William!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matanel Barak!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barak shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in William's guard.
Barak sitting in guard, not really doing much.

William pushes Barak off and gets back to his feet.
Barak fails in his attempt to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from William is defended easily by Barak.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barak clinches up against the cage.

Barak gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barak looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
William really is a fat lump.
Barak looking to pass the guard.
Barak is stalling in the full guard.
Let's hope that Barak has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Barak wants to stand and escape but instead William has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Barak wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
William is looking to stand up but Barak won't let him.
William prevents Barak from getting back to his feet.
William trying to control the position from guard on top but Barak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barak can do anything to dispel that myth.

Barak escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. William gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Barak has a closed guard, preventing William from standing up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

William had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barak defends it easily.
Barak is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



William tries to sprawl but Barak drives through with a takedown into half guard.

William tries to kick Barak off but Barak keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Barak lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Barak working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on William's thigh. William counters though and makes it back to full guard.
William controls Barak momentarily but Barak frees himself.

William is looking for a triangle but Barak pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barak scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Barak looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Barak would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Matanel Barak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! William's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Barak closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming William to the mat! William manages to get full guard.
Barak slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
William has momentary wrist control but Barak slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barak has gone for a leg lock! William slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barak's guard.


William stands up from Barak's guard - William perhaps looking for a knockout.
Barak is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Barak clinches.
Barak is trying to break the clinch but William is controlling him.
Barak wants to take the fight to the mat but William manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Barak escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Matanel Barak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barak throws a series of punches but William avoids them all with ease.

Barak closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. William did well to prevent Barak getting side control.
Barak seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
William wants to get back to his feet.
Barak perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Barak is sneakily working for an arm triangle but William sees it coming and defends easily.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Barak. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Barak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Barak perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Barak wants to take a breather but William is having none of it.

Barak is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Barak goes for a double leg but William avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as William continues to drive forward.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barak shoots in but no luck this time.
It looked like William was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Carson William has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matanel Barak.
William will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Barak shoots in for a takedown but William shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Barak keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from William is defended easily by Barak.

and William finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
William scores with a leg kick.
William shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barak pinned against the cage. Barak gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barak throws a head kick that misses
and William counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Barak thinking.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

William shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Barak manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

William gets to his feet. Barak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Matanel Barak.
I've got Barak winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
