PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sebastian Shot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Cherry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sebastian Shot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Cherry!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shot drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cherry keeping full guard, as Shot tries to pass.
Cherry looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shot is one step ahead there.
Our spies down at at Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week) inform us that Cherry has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cherry trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Cherry is trying to control the position but Shot postures up.
Shot sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cherry's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shot content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Shot working Cherry over with strikes.

Shot is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cherry defends it well.
Shot tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cherry knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Shot takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Shot missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cherry won't allow Shot to pass to mount.
Cherry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shot. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shot controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shot prevents Cherry from improving his position.
Cherry is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Shot working the head and body with strikes.
Cherry won't allow Shot to pass to mount.
Shot keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Shot has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shot lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shot is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cherry looking for a sweep. Not yet Cherry, not yet.
Cherry being controlled here, momentarily.
Shot working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Shot passes into half guard.
Shot drops an elbow to the side of Cherry's head.
Shot looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Shot is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Shot is controlling the pace.

Shot is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shot scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Shot keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Shot takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Shot has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shot is taking a breather. Cherry says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shot connects with a nice short shot to Cherry's temple.


Cherry is rocked!
Shot looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shot with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Shot sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cherry defending well though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sebastian Shot dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Cherry takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shot lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Shot scores with a nice strike.
Shot keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Cherry moves forwards but Shot connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Cherry is still on wobbly legs! Can Shot finish him?
Cherry fails with the takedown
and Shot counters with a left to the body.

Shot closes the distance and clinches.
Cherry wants to take the fight to the mat but Shot manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Cherry seems to have recovered his senses.
Cherry is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shot pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sebastian Shot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Cherry.
Cherry is trying to drag Shot to the mat but Shot just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Shot.
Shot stops a takedown attempt from Cherry.

Shot's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shot cracks Cherry with an open hand slap.
Cherry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shot but Shot pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shot throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cherry stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Shot lands with a hook. Cherry tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Shot tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Shot throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Donk. Shot catches Cherry right on the button with a cross.
We've been told by Shot's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Rio that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Shot lands a lovely overhand right.

Shot gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Cherry is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cherry goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shot prevents it.
Shot presses Cherry against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Cherry is breathing heavily.

Shot pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jack Cherry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shot tries to close the distance and clinch but Cherry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shot connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cherry momentarily.

Shot fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cherry sprawls well initially but Shot persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shot uses his free foot to push down on Cherry's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cherry.

Shot in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Sebastian Shot overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shot loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Cherry scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Shot land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Shot stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sebastian Shot!
Sebastian Shot took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
The defeated Jack Cherry had this to say: 'Back to the drawing board to fix what I missed. No more no less. Embrace the grind'.
