Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hector Hernandez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Vermeer! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vermeer throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hernandez on the side of the head. Hernandez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Hernandez wants to clinch and Vermeer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A jab from Vermeer does it's job there. Vermeer lands an overhand right. Vermeer thuds a left hand into Hernandez's body. Vermeer tests Hernandez's chin there with a solid looking shot. Hernandez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vermeer sprawls well. Vermeer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hernandez gets slowly back to his feet. Vermeer throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Hernandez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Hernandez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Hector Hernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vermeer ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Hernandez takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Vermeer has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Hernandez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hector Hernandez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hernandez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hernandez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Vermeer lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Vermeer lands a jab-cross combination. Vermeer keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hernandez fails with the takedown and Vermeer counters with a lovely shot to the body. Hernandez is breathing heavily. Hernandez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Hernandez is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hernandez walks straight into a right hand from Vermeer - that's dropped him! Vermeer jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Hernandez from any more punishment! Hernandez complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Alexander Vermeer!
